The RP-21 on-board radar served as the all-seeing eyes of the MiG-21MF fighter plane. Its task was to recognize any aircraft from 20kms and to lock onto them from 10kms.
The Hungarian Air Force introduced fifty MiG-21MFs, which could break the sound barrier even at low altitude. These served between 1970 and 1997. This model has the lowest accident statistics of military aircraft used in Hungary.
