It propelled World War II Soviet planes The Permi Engine Factory began manufacturing this Soviet air cooled radial engine in 1940. The engine was installed in such iconic Soviet aircraft as the Lavochkin La-5, La-7 and La-9 as well as the Ilyushin Il-2 and Il-14 passenger planes. Almost 70,000 were made. The engine wreckage on display belonged to a Lavochkin La-5 FN that crashed at Újszász on 13 November 1944. It was excavated in September 2007.
